Question Britax Advocate G3

My daughter is 9months old almost 19lbs and 29in tall. We have a 2010 Nissan Rogue and ive been doing my research on convertibles for some time now. I had our "big girl seat" all picked out and ready to buy and stash then Britax came out with the newest line (G4). My question is, is their a significant safety difference between the 2 seats? Willl my daughter be just as safe in the G3? Is there anything I can do to enhance her safety in this seat? Or should I just go with the G4? Ive also found the G3 for $100 off so I would love to save the money, but of course, safety comes first without a doubt!
Thanks, Kiersten!

I am not too up to date but I would think you would get a longer time in it if buying the G4-just going by manufacture dates. A review is on here somewhere, but I don't know how to link, sorry:( Personally, I would rather save the $100 and buy a newer seat sooner because I like new seats:)

There isn't a big difference between them. There are new covers, the HUGS are a little different, and there is a new infant insert. I'd just get the G3 or something else. Britax seats aren't the longest lasting rearfacing, but they still normally get kids to 3 or 4 RF.

Safety-wise, as far as anyone knows, they are the same. Companies will always come out with new features, making a seat "safer", but we have absolutely no way to know if this translates to a car seat that is actuallysafer than any other on the shelf. We are not given data on how well one car seat preforms over another. All that we know is that they pass the standards, which are pretty stringent, so you can rest assured that any seat sold on the market in your country is safe, provided it fits your child and vehicle, and is used correctly each and every time.

I would buy a G3 if that was what was available (and if I liked the cover pattern, of course!) and I would feel absolutely fine about it. I have owned several G3 Britax seats and have loved them!

There is a way, however, for you to make sure your daughter is even safer in the car once you've chosen a seat that fits, and that is making sure her car seat faces the correct direction, the rear! Rear facing your child in their car sear is one of the best steps you can take to ensure their safety in the vehicle. We would all be safer rear-facing! (I don't think i'd fit in the Advocate, though ;) ). Here is an article jam-packed with information explaining exactly why rear facing until a minimum of two years old is so highly recommended. Have a read if you wish!

It is common practice around here to rear face until 3, 4 and even 5 years old! Children really do not mind it, most like it and are a little ticked when you turn their seat forward. It makes it more comfortable for sleeping (they just stick their legs wherever they please, when do kids sit with their legs straight, anyway?) and it is great for keeping their toys and sippy cups in their laps and not on the floor, they can also see out both side windows and the rear window as well!

I hope you stick around and become part of the community :) We love new members!

The details about the G4 updates can be found here: http://carseatblog.com/24190/abc-expo-2013-britax-g4-convertible-preview/

As far as I know, there are no safety improvements, per se. If your daughter were tiny, then the infant insert might be a safety improvement because the harness might fit her better. But she likely fits the harness just fine at her size.

The ease of use features might make the the seat safer, but there's no way of knowing whether you would have been prone to the specific misuse that the improvements address. For example, the max harness height indicator is a good reminder, but only necessary for parents who might have not noticed that their child's shoulders were creeping above the top harness slots while FF.

If you want something that will last longer rear-facing (and with a 29" 9-month-old, I'd recommend it), I'd suggest the Nextfit. Apparently there's some amazing combo of Target deals that makes them really affordable right now. It's described in the shopping section. Awesome seat. I have both -- a britax convertible and a nextfit and I love these seats. Nextfit will last longer, though.
