Is it safe to sew strap holders onto a car seat cover?

I really like the little elasticized loops for holding the harness out of the way. I have seen these on the peg convertible and on the cocorro. I don't plan to purchase either of those seats, though, because they won't last long rear-facing by height.

On the britax seats, I cannot, under any circumstances, get the Velcro tabs of the harness to actuall stick to the Velcro tabs of the seat. I have no idea why, but every seat I have tried, in every store, they don't even remotely come close to each other.

So my question is: can I sew elasticized loops onto the cover of a nextfit or size4me?

On our current infant seat, we stick the harness into the baseless install belt guides.

These have been discussed here before and I think the general consensus is these are safe.

I wouldn't have any problem with that. On our Regent, DS would stick his hands through them to hold on, and stretched them out pretty bad. I would try these first, I think. I was considering those lula clips but since learning they pin on and since the nextfit cover is kind of stretchy I would worry about my kid trying to pull at them and stretching the cover. I'm trying to cook something up in my head. Digging the straps out from under the kid is the one thing I don't like about the nextfit. Love it otherwise. (It's worse than other seats I've have because there are slits in the cover so you can remove the cover without removing the harness and the buckles tend to fall through those so they are not just under my kid's rump they are actually under the cover, too)

ETA I think if I were to use the lula clips on the nextfit I would consider putting some sort of firm non-stretch material behind it as a solid backing. Wonder if anyone has contacted chicco about some sort of strap holding device to improve the seat? i think i will do that.
