VW seat belt replacement warranty?

I've been googling but can't find anything about this.

The car is an '01 VW Golf TDI. When dh initially called the dealter about getting it replaced, they said "10 year warranty," and took his number so the service dept. could call him back to make an appointment.

When the guy called back, he haughtily informed dh that there was definitely no "windshield wiper" warranty. When dh corrected him, he fumbled a bit and then said No, no extended warranties on anything.

I'm not feeling very confident with this answer! I'll pay for the new belt if I have to, but I want to know if I can get it for free! Does anyone know their policy?

It slipped while in "locked" mode the other day while I was installing the Radian. It's been acting odd for years - it doesn't retract all the way. Almost, but not quite. About a half inch hangs out. I figured as long as it was still locking, it was fine.

When I was installing the Radian, I pulled the seat belt all the way out to lock it, then I had the Radian tilted sideways to get it buckled tight. When I straightened the Radian, the seat belt slipped at the retractor and made a screeching sound. I hadn't put much pressure on it. (The Radian actually installed fairly easily in that car, compared to some of the pressure we were putting on the other vehicles' belts to get it in tight!)

If I have to pay for it, I'll probably have my dad do the actual replacement. He's good at that. :)

If you can't find the policy online, VW FAQ says:
Who can best answer questions about my VW warranty?
First, contact your local dealer - they're the closest, and have lots of resources at their disposal. If you still have questions after that, just give the fine folks manning our Customer CARE Center a call, 1-800-822-8987, weekdays, 8am to 5pm in all U.S. time zones. They will be happy to answer any questions. Of course, you can check the manual too.

Check the manual? You mean, I can get info other places than the internet?? Weird. Who ever heard of something like that?!

Just wanted to update.

I called VW and they said I need to make an appointment with the dealer, then call VW back and let them know that I've got an appointment for a possible faulty seat belt. Basically, if it's their fault it's broken, they'll fix it for free, if it's our fault, we have to pay for it.

That's all well and good, but I refuse to take my car to that dealer for work again. We had a *lot* of engine work done on it earlier this year by a local mechanic. A couple weeks after that, there was a recall so we took the VW to the dealer to get that taken care of, and they came up with all this suspicious-sounding stuff that the local mechanic had "done wrong."

I figured the dealer knew what they were talking about until the engine broke two mounts and damn near fell out of the car two weeks ago. Either the dealer screwed it up when they "fixed" the local mechanic's mistakes, or they missed the fact that the local mechanic hadn't bolted the engine in correctly - either way, the dealer isn't on my list of places to trust right now. The local mechanic, on the other hand, fixed the whole mess for free.

So anyway, I'm just gonna buy a new seatbelt and have my dad install it and eat the cost.
