So sad

How many people trust checking their carseats in at the airport and seeing how they are so dang tossed around.

I just picked up my mom from the airport and saw so many babies who hopefully still have a safe car seat.

I just couldn't trust it

Unfortunately most people don't realize how important it is to use your carseat on the plane instead of checking it!

The benefits are many; 1., using the seat on the plane actually isn't as hard as many people think, especially when you realize how much calmer your flight will be with your little one comfortable and safe in their own seat.

2. Of course children are much safer in the event of an emergency landing or even turbulence in their carseats.

3. And finally having used your carseat aboard prevents the risk of it suffering damage through baggage handling if its checked.

I would say that most people you see checking carseats probably aren't being deliberately careless, they just don't know. Education is the key! :)

Very true for all of this. I am wondering why pediatricians don't give this information out. Our ped has no info on carseats. Their walls should be plastered in car seat info.

Mine does, but it's bare minimum, RF to 2, booster at 4, seat belt at 4'9". Although it is better than RF to 1 and 20, and he was a little surprised when I said I plan on keeping Sean RFing to as close to 4 as I can manage, :).

That's great! :) How is he doing now, is he still rear facing? I really wanted to keep DS2 RF until 3 but we only made it to 2.5; he's over 45 lbs now. DS1 is maybe 40 lbs.

Sean is 16 months, approx 27lbs and 32in, and following brother's growth curve to put him at 40lbs and 40in at 2.5-ish. I just got his RXT installed today :). Prolly gonna take some pictures in the morning and post a thread to double check my install, lol. It was super easy for all the stories I've heard about Radians :). Quinn is 4yrs 3month and 44-45 lbs and 43-44", so depending on how much he has ate that day, he could almost still fit :), but he has been FFing since a little after 2 to stop arguments with DH. But he has thought about the physics of crashes a little more since then and is on board with RFing Sean as long as we can (or he is tired of "discussing" it with me, lol).

Exactly that. I taveled with a lap infant and checked a carseat with my oldest. I simply did not know any better, and thought I was doing a great job by taking his seat along. I also thought that if the airlines allowed him as a lap infant, it must be ok. Now I know better, and do better. But I do think for a lot of people, they simply don't know

It's also that a lot of people don't want to go through the hassle of dragging around a car seat in an airport, my husband included. We were flying with our son as lap infant (yes I know better now) - I told him I wanted to being along our sons car seat in order to make sure he would sleep well since it was a late flight and my husband told me no way in heck is he hauling around a car seat in an airport near Christmas on the off chance there is a seat free next to us. Especially since my sons favorite spot was my arms. If you have more then one kid I can only imagine how much more difficult it makes it.
