measurements for backseats?

Is there a thread with measurements of backseats of different cars?

We are looking on car sites to see difference between the 2014 Subaru Forester and the 2013 Subaru Crosstrek and also to compare to the 2004 Mazda 3 that we currently have.

The hip room specifications are confusing us. I thought the 2014 Forester was supposed to have a large backseat. The Crosstrek is the same as the Impreza and is a smaller car.

This is what the specifications say:
2014 Forester 53.0"
2013 Crosstrek 53.1" (2013 Impreza is exactly the same if you are not familiar with the Crosstrek)
2004 Mazda 3 53.9"

How is the tiny Mazda 3 have a wider back seat than the new Forester? Is it really bigger than the Impreza? How is hip room measured? Is this even accurate to get width of backseat?

I understand that the width of the backseat doesn't really have much to do with how carseats will fit, but I really don't want something smaller than our Mazda3 which is too small!

I don't know if it's wider, but I've got extensive Mazda 3 car seat experience and intermediate Forester experience and they're not much alike. Much more room in the Forester.

KaiLing - looking for some help with a Mazda 3 and a rear-facing convertible for my 2-year old. He's still in a cheap Evenflo (don't recall the model, but it was the cheapest Evenflo Wal-mart had, originally purchased for a flight), but he'll soon be too tall. We currently have a Britax Blvd and a Radian XTSL with angle adjuster that could be used, but I haven't had a chance to try these out as it's been negative 10 degrees around here lately! Do you know if either of these will work. Do you have any experience with these or any other suggestions of something I could purchase? My husband is tall and sits with the seat fully back. Need to be able to carry a passenger comfortably very freqently and don't want to un-install the seat every time. I thought the Radian might work in between the seats, but I'm afraid it will be braced in between them, and I think that year's model (2007) has air bag sensors, but I'm not sure. Any advise you can give is appreciated!

Stephdeputy - we have a 2007 Mazda 3 and tried the radians. They absolutely do not fit rear facing in any position if you want to use the front seats and that was with the angle adjuster. We have successfully installed a britax boulevard and a clek foonf rear facing in this car. The driver seat is not 100% back but pretty close with the Clek foonf and about the same with the boulevard.
