    Nextfit fit issues

Please, I really need some help.
I just purchased a Nextfit for my 2 1/2 year old son with the hope that he can remain rearfacing for another couple of years. (He just outgrew his Britax Boulevard.)

I love the seat until I install it and try to use it. I get a nice tight fit in my car and have it reclined on the second RF position. When I sit my son in it I am presented with an either-or situation; either the harness straps are at his shoulders and the top of his head is level with the top of the headrest OR the straps are well above his shoulders and there is sufficient room above his head. I don't know what to do! Am I doing something wrong, or will this seat just not work for my little guy?
Also, when I tried to tighten the harness, it would not budge. I could not get it to tighten at all! I've read about some people having an issue with that, but they usually say that it's "difficult to tighten," not impossible! What do I need to do differently?

I want to know if anyone else is having/has had these issues and what they've done to resolve them (or perhaps I'm just doing it all wrong?).
If this seat won't work for us, what are some other suggestions?

I'll appreciate any help I can get to figure this all out. He needs a seat ASAP!
    Thanks.

I'm having the same issue but I can see about an 1" of space above her head. Harness tightening is very hard and virtually impossible at times. I'm returning mine. Dd is 24mos

If you could post pictures if the problem, someone with more knowledge of the seat might have some tips for you!

I have my 2 yr 8 month old rf in a Nextfit. He is almost 40" and about 33-34 lbs. According to Chicco, you don't need to worry about having 1" of space over the head until the headrest is fully extended. You want the harness at or below the shoulders and his head contained, it's ok to have less than 1" unless headrest is all the way up, Also, make sure the buckle strap is not under the child or it is impossible to tighten properly. I usually buckle my son in and keep the chest clip lower towards the buckle while I tighten and then raise the strap covers and clip to proper position and tighten more if needed. Our seat tightens easily though and I only loosen a little when I take him out so I don't need to tighten much when I put him back in. If you cannot get the harness to tighten at all, I would recommend calling Chicco and asking to speak with Julie Prom, their tech on staff.

I read on another thread that there was something about the head rest keeping it from tightening. Try pulling on the harness and moving the headrest up a click. Maybe it will free it up. When I had my nextfit it was difficult but not that bad. I'm used to the radian's ratchet-ratchet-ratchet, though.

If you can't figure it out by all means call Chicco. The more notice they have of things like this the faster they can work the bugs out.

    Good luck!

I remember reading that if the headrest is at the lowest setting you have to fold the bottom flap (the part that is at the child's lower back) up or behind or something. I think it may actually be stated in the manual. I also noticed that the angle you pull the strap at makes a difference (up/straight out/towards the bottom).
