Best Carseats for airline travel with Newborn?

I am due mid December and it looks like we may be taking a trip to Jamaica or Mexico that could be anywhere in January-March, but hubby said the trips in the past have been more around February. We have not bought a carseat for this little one yet and figured I'd ask about good carseats for planes to keep in consideration when we go to buy seat for this baby. I had thought about a Radian for our vehicle, but not sure that would be a good pick to try to put rearfacing on a plane due to its height if international flight allows us to. Also, is there anything else I should make sure to bring with to get a good install if taking any car rides? Last time I went on a plane was when I was a kid so any pointers of traveling especially with a baby would be greatly appreciated.

Do you want to skip the infant bucket? Personally I find them super convenient for airplane travel. I put it on my frame to get through the airport then gate check the frame and bring the seat on board to use. Try to fly a US carrier so they will allow you to use the seat on board.

Pretty much any infant seat will be easy to travel with. Other seats that are easy for travel, coccoro, scenera, tribute. If you are skipping the infant seat it might be worth it to see if a trusted friend or family member has an infant seat you could borrow for a few weeks (unexpired, uncrashed, undamaged or course!)

I know this isn't what you asked about, but I would be really leary to travel with a newborn during cold and flu season. Is there a reason you couldn't wait for awhile to take the trip?? My DS caught a cold that was actually RSV when he was a few weeks old and spent a week in the ICU and has permanent lung damage. It has changed my whole opinion on having newborns out and about especially during flu season.

In either of those countries seatbelts that lock are rare, sometimes there are no seatbelts at all. Familiarize yourself with how to use lap belts, locking clips, and if available lockoffs, properly.

Given the baby is so tiny, I would bring an infant seat. I believe there is one out now that has a lockoffs on the seat itself (so you won't need the base). An infant seat should work though as long as you take the time to learn how to install it with a locking clip.

If you are skipping an infant seat, I would get a combi coccoro because it is easy to fly with, tiny and light, fits newborns well, and has a lockoff for installing in cars that don't have locking belts. I have one for my 2 year old and I will be so sad when she outgrows it!

Please buy a seat for the baby and use your car seat on the plane. This protects both your child's safety and the safety of everyone else.

I would not bring a Scenera, hard to install and uncomfortable for a newborn IMO.
