We are expecting our 6th child this winter, which means that we will need to get a new vehicle to fit everyone. We currently own a 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan that only seats 7, plus it does not have a headrest or shoulder belt in the middle rear seat so we knew that we would need to upgrade eventually anyway. This is for sure our last baby and we would like to get a newer minivan for me to use for daily outings. My DH will likely be getting a larger, new 8 passenger SUV (likely either an Expedition or Suburban, something that again has enough shoulder belts/headrests to give us longevity of use) that we'd use for longer trips, going to stock up at Costco, etc.
At the time the baby is born I will have a 10 year old (she's less than 70lbs, so I definitely want her still in a booster even if it needs to be backless to have access to the rear row), 8 year old and 6 year old all in Graco HB Turboboosters. My current younger two are 4yo (FF) and 2yo (RF) in Radian 65's. I have a Radian 85 that we used from birth with our youngest and could use for the new baby, although I would really love to buy a Britax B-Safe to use at first if we can find a way to fit it. I've got my heart set on the Britax B-Safe travel system with the B-Ready stroller, but if it turns out the B-Safe won't fit well next to other carseats/boosters then I'd be open to other options.
We've been considering between 2008-2010 in either a Honda Odyssey or Toyota Sienna. My main concerns are finding a minivan that will have the 8 passenger seating with full seatbelts/headrests for everyone, maybe a bit more cargo space than my Grand Caravan and I'd love it if we could find a van that has 3rd row side curtain airbags (I think that would be just the Odyssey?). Since we will only have 3 in carseats, having tons of latch connectors isn't a huge deal either way. I'd guess that my 4yo will be ready for a booster in about a year based both on size and maturity, so that would leave just the youngest 2 needing carseats for the next few years. I'd love both vehicle suggestions, carseat suggestions for the new baby and suggestions on how to arrange everyone. Thanks so much!
