I would say it depends on your needs. :)

I have an '08 Mazda 5 with ~85,000 miles on it. I bought it in July for $8400 (before interest from financing). I only have one child but transport other people/kids sometimes. I LOVE the extra space!

How many children do you have?

Well I have 1 3yr old, baby on the way, and possibly a third via adoption by the end of next year. This would be a third car for the nanny to drive but she transport our son to his activities and errands, etc.

Is the 3 year old rear or forward facing? Are you planning on adopting a baby or an older child?

I ask because Mazda requires the 2nd row seats to be all the way back when car seats are installed. Thus, fitting a rear facing seat in the 3rd row would be a challenge. I tried installing a rear facing Radian (with angle adjuster) back there a few days ago just because I needed the 2nd row seat. It most definitely does NOT fit. I haven't tried anything else and the Radian is kind of a beast.

3yr old is forward and the third child would be 2yrs old and rear facing unless it takes over 8months, and she would be three.

I would go with the Mazda just to avoid the possibility of a three across. I love my Mazda5 and so far even with four kids all in car seats it's been great, for a nanny I think it would be just about perfect.

We are die-hard CRV loyalists (we both drive them), but I don't think a 3-across in a CRV is a good option for kids fairly close in age.

I love my mazda5. I find that the radian is awesome with angle adjuster in the third row. I just make sure that the seat in front of it has a booster or a seat using latch in it and have the seat up a few clicks. The main reason they recommend having the seats in the second row as far back as possible is that if you move a seat installed with the seatbelt it can mess up the install.

Currently I have a rfing radian in the 3rd row with boosters in the second. The other half of the rear row is folded down for extra cargo room. I use bungee cords to hold down the stroller and anything else I need to transport.

I have also had a ffing frontier in the second row as well. That seat fits like a glove in that car! I didn't like having the ffing seat in the third row because it was hard to buckle around the seats in the middle row.

For a nanny transporting 2 rfers and a ffer, I'd go for the mazda. It really is a great little car and gets pretty decent gas mileage. I'd hate to try 3 across in a crv. My sister says it's pretty hard to get 2 seats and an adult back there.

You didn't say what years? I have an 07 mazda5, my mom has an 01 crv. My car handles carseats better, her car handles inclement weather better. Those are the only truly defining differences we have noticed. They are both great cars!

We went and bought the 5 yesterday. It had more cosmetic
Stuff than I thought (some scratches o
In the cargo area and stain on the headliner) but I still think its worth it. It came w a transferable warranty up to 100k miles or 2016 so I feel good about that.
