Question Narrow seat recommendation?

Hi!
I drive a 2007 dodge charger rt. I need to replace my 4 year old daighters seat bc it doesn't fit with my newborn daughters seat.

My 4 year old is near 40lbs and 40in and needs to ride outboard.
Newborn is in a graco snugride 30 with the dedicated 30 base (NOT the 30/35) bc it is one of the narrowest infant seats/bases available. She has to be in the center in order to fit properly.

My 4 year old was riding in an Evenflo Triumph of some sort from 2009 that will not fit properly next to the snugride.

I know the radians are narrow at around 17 in but they are quite expensive. Also i have heard that the rxt's get outgrown quickly due to the headwings, is this true? If i did go with a radian should i just do the r100? Do you know of any other narrow seats? I also wish the r100 came in the plum color bc my daughter saw it on the rxt and wants it now...

Anyone have any thoughts on the cosco ava seat?

Lastly, should i go with a combination seat or just get a cheap narrow convertible to get me through the next year or 2 until she needs a booster.

Welcome to car-seat.org! I think a Harmony Defender would suit your needs nicely. It's nearly as narrow as a Radian, and it's forward facing with a 5 point harness and 18.5" top harness slots, then converts to a high back and later backless booster. They're $100 at Wal Mart.

The Radian headwings do start to get uncomfortable for an older child once their shoulders get close to the top position because their shoulders start to come into contact with the bottom of the wings, but it's still a very long lasting rear and forward facing seat, it's not something I would be concerned about affecting the lifepsan of the seat.

You could also consider a Radian to use for the 4 year old now, and the baby later when he/she outgrows the infant seat, then you could determine if the oldest is mature enough yet for a booster and pass the Radian down, so it wouldn't be a wasted investment even if your 4 y/o only uses it for a year.
