WWYD: flying with DD - 6 yrs 10 months

We're taking a 4 hr flight. DD wants head support for sleeping. I told her she'd have to use a harnessed seat and she's cool with that. The problem comes from the fact that she's too tall for anything other than the FR 85 or 90.

Technically she fits in the Maestro I got for DS since she's 48 lbs and her shoulders are just under the top strap setting, but her shoulders hit the head support and she asked me to move the headrest up since it's not comfortable. :p

Do I take the 85 even though I really don't want to because I'm traveling with 6  kids, and the less stuff I have the better? We will have 3 adults, and my older 2 boys will be helping as well but still. Or do I just tell her to suck it up on the plane and take the folding booster for her like I'd originally planned? Would the SK's headrest move out of her way enough? I hate to buy a seat for one trip though. I only bought the Maestro cause I got a good deal from NBD and it'll be a great back up seat for him and my nephew.

She really wants to take the FR 90 but it's not FAA approved.

I know what you mean! It makes me twitch too but it's better to spend 4 hrs on the plane, 3 hrs driving, and however many hrs in the airport than spending a week together in the car with 6 kids. ;)

To be fair, the oldest "kid" is 15 1/2 and the youngest is 5 so it's not like I'm traveling with tiny ones. :)

If it were me, I'd get her a travel neck pillow or something and have her lean against me/the wall to sleep if needed. But the thought of taking 6 kids on a plane makes me twitch in general, so...

My thoughts exactly! Ask her if she wants to carry the frontier around the airport.
Maybe I'm a mean mom, but it sounds like overkill.

I'd either have her sit next to the window or next to your youngest in the carseat (if you're taking one on for him) so she has something to lean on with a regular pillow. Both my kids have the little neck pillows and have never gotten them to work right and be comfy for sleeping.

No way in heck I'd take a Frontier on a plane for a 6yo :p (we've been traveling with a NBB & a GO for the past year and it's so lovely compared to when we took 'real' seats with).
