Question How do you use a belt shortening clip?

I was going to start to describe it....but honestly it really needs a video.

You use it on the opposite side as a locking clip (door side); and you have to make a closed loop with the seat belt webbing.

I honestly hope I never have an ELR with a sewn on latchplate come thru a check,

I don't know that you can use it on the female end...hmmmm :scratcheshead:

Basically the belt-shortening clip takes place of the retractor (which is why you place it on the door side). I don't believe it would be effective if placed on the other side.

Going back to class tomorrow and I can ask the instructors but maybe someone here can chime in first.

The belt is mounted to the floor and over a foot long. Even with twisting the buckle is in the belt path for every seat I have attempted to put in there.

In the belt path isn't a concern -- pivoting on the corner is.

Using a BSC on the female end is not approved in the Canadian curriculum. I *think* it is in the US curriculum but I don't know for sure, and I couldn't tell you the reasoning for one way or the other.

Make absolutely sure that what you have IS a BSC and not a locking clip as the LC won't hold in a crash and the BSC will.

It interferes with the belt path no matter what I do. I'm pretty sure I have one, it came with the mustang it's like a locking clip on steroids. I don't know where it is at the moment but I'll probably just get a new one.

Yeah, Ford gives gives out belt shortening clips and calls them locking clips. They are bigger, and shiny hardened steel, like a seatbelt buckle tongue.
