Vent Article in The Star

I appreciate that the author was trying to get an important message out there to Canadian parents, but there are all sorts of incomplete or inaccurate bits of information in the article.

But the kicker to all the things in the article that make me want to provide some correction to the people being quoted, is the picture that heads the article - a kid in a thick snowsuit in a European seat with the harness visibly loose.

They've missed a tremendous opportunity to model and show everyone what correct use looks like.

The rest - well... I have issues with scare tactics to begin with. I have bigger issues with someone citing something as an everyday risk when there are specific features in all modern vehicles designed to prevent people from going through the windshield. The person quoting should've known that before making such an exaggerated statement...

What a strange article. Did anyone else find the writing style a bit odd? It kind of felt like I was reading a bunch of paragraphs that had been shoved together to make an article. Maybe just poor editing? Either way, very strange for lots of reasons.

Yes! Someone sent this to me today, and it took me a couple of tries to get through the odd style before I could really focus on the content.

I work with journalists every day (when I'm not on Mat leave. ;)) and I'm sad to say whenever I have even the slightest personal knowledge of a story being covered, I always find errors. I don't trust anything in the News anymore, but lots of people still do and will be mislead by this article. :(

That is very true.
