Saturday was the second playdate we've done where we drove in one car. The last time we used her vehicle, and I noticed loose and twisty straps but wasn't familiar with how the harness worked on that seat and also it being her vehicle, I didn't say anything.
This time I was determined to try to help, but didn't want to seem pushy! So as soon as I got there, I started moving Justin's Regent from the center to outboard, to make room for the other boy's seat. As not to subject you all to too many details, it worked out great: I was able to install her seat with LATCH and tether, fix the cover which was coming off the seat, untwist the harness, and install her child with tighter straps and higher chest clip.
Also, she told me she bought a booster seat on sale, since he is 33 lbs. now and big enough for one. I told her he is much safer to stay in the carseat until he outgrows it, and that he can stay in it until 40 lbs. or his shoulders are above the top harness slot, whichever comes first. (He has about 2 inches left to the top slot). She agreed and I think she may keep him harnessed for a while longer.
When we got back, I offered to reinstall it in her vehicle, but she said it is waiting to be fixed and she will probably have to use the seat in a different car before then, so we left the seat on the porch. Maybe next time! But I am so glad she let me fix the seat and was receptive to what I said and did! Just had to share!
