Is there any benefit to floppy buckle stalks?

They're annoying for buckling baby buckets without the base and supposed to be for boosters as well. Is there any upside??? (I know the obvious solution to the bucket is to use the base but this was a couple-time thing ;) )

Depending on the length of the buckle stalk, they can work very well for RF and FF harnessed seats and I believe they can also give a better fit for children out of boosters and adults.

I am not sure why they would be a pain buckling a baseless infant seat?
Generally the alternative (fixed buckle stalks) are more difficult to work with, because whatever angle the stalk is fixed at is what you have to work with and if the geometry doesn't match your carseat? You are SOL because there is nothing you can do. With webbing you can twist 3 full turns to move the buckle out of the way of the belt path, and the webbing can swivel around the anchor point.
Also, my van has fixed buckle stalks in the captain's chairs and my daughter finds it difficult to buckle her booster. You have to push the latchplate into the receptacle at exactly the right angle or it doesn't click. Radian is just plain incompatible with the belt in those chairs because of the buckle stalk, btw.

It's not a HUGE pain but like I will put the bucket on the seat and reach over to click the buckle in and the female end isn't there, I have to reach back under the seat and dig for it. It's partly what I am used to (had fixed buckles between seats in old van) and now that I know to look for it it isn't such a shock, but I can see it being issue if/when we have boosters in those seats. Just wondering if there is any upside to them. :)
