Can a keyfit fit in an overhead bin?

This came up in a discussion here a while back, and at least one person said that she had put an infant carrier in the overhead bin.

Obviously it will depend on the aircraft you're using -- I could see it easily fitting in those huge overhead bins on a 747 or 777 but probably not on a small regional jet or turboprop.

Also, most gate agents and flight attendants seem to think that carseat = gate check item. If you're not using the carseat for a child, they may ask you to check it, especially on a full flight. Sometimes they need every inch of overhead bin space.
