Question 2001 Saab 9-3 Convertible

Hello,

I drive a 2001 Saab 9-3 Viggen Convertible, which among other things turns out to be the last(?) model year which didn't have LATCH. I got a True Fit Recline (C650), and the California Highway Patrol installed it rear-facing in the back seat, and it actually fits okay (not easy to get in or out with the top down, but that's life in a convertible) but there is an issue I'm concerned about.

When we first experimented with it, we found that the harness wouldn't latch properly. We found out that it was due to the fact that the way CHP installed it, at least, the front of the seat pushes up against the rear seat, and the fabric on the front of the seat was holding the harness latch button open. Moving the fabric around fixed it, but the button is very hard to reach.

Obviously, my main concern is: is this something that is going to be a safety hazard?

Anyone else with a 9-3 Convertible who can share their suggestions?

Hi. Sometimes rear-facing carseats are difficult to adjust because that darn adjuster is smooshed into the back seat. But I am concerned with your description that the fabric is holding the button open. If the button isn't holding the harness tight, you betcha it's a safety hazard.

IME, training of officers tends to be hit and miss. Some are really gung ho and very dedicated and some are, "eh, it's my job and I'll do it because of that," and that's how they treat the class. We do have techs from our forums here in your general area that you may have to drive to meet up with, but these folks live and breathe carseats and should help you find a solution. http://www.car-seat.org/showthread.php?t=59135
