2006 Ford Freestar

Is the 06 Freestar a good family van? My only experience with Ford has been lemon after lemon, but it seems like maybe they've gotten better in recent years.

What is the crash performance? How many tether locations? Do most car seats fit well in all positions? Anything you can tell me is appreciated!

I found one with 149k miles for $3k. Good deal? It was a state-owned vehicle, so I'm not too concerned about the history.

Bumping this because we looked at the van today and really liked it. Anything we should look out for? Being at the state surplus lot, we could only turn it on (no test drive). Nobody in our family has had a problem with buying from them, though.

Please share any thoughts, positive or negative. Thanks!

Personally, I'm not sure I would touch one with a 10ft pole. The transmissions are prone to spontaneous deaths, side impact ratings are the worst.

I know the earlier years were troublesome, but I thought they had worked out the tranny problems by 06. What crash ratings are you looking at? It got good ratings when I looked at NHTSA and IIHS.
