Hi,
I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on this question:
We are considering purchasing a 1991 Mercury Grand Marquis as a second family vehicle, mainly for my husband and the kids to use. He is a stay at home dad and needs to be able to run to the school etc in the fall when C. starts school; with him we expect a lot more calls from the school to come quick.
, our children are R., age 6, in a high back booster, C., almost 4 harnessed in FF seat, and L., 2 harnessed in a FF seat. Currently they all sit across in the back in our 2000 Pontiac Bonneville, R. in a lap and shoulder on driver's side, C. and L. in passenger/centre positions (lap only in centre but we figure we can keep L. harnessed for several more years, eventually maybe add a shoulder strap when the time comes, assuming our pontiac is still around).
The Mercury has the same setup with four lap/shoulders in front and rear outboard, plus lap belts in front and rear centre seats (6 seater). Driver's side airbag only, no passenger. I have no doubt about fitting the seats in, what we are wondering about is mainly:
Top tether anchors? Would they be preinstalled, or would they have points where they could be installed? Our Pontiac has them built in, last time we had a much older vehicle we could only physically install one tether anchor for the back seat due to physical access for drilling/installing it.
Also if/when child #4 comes along, could we install a car seat in each of the center seats (lap belts only), and me/husband/2 older kids in outboard lap/shoulder seats? Would this be an issue due to the driver's airbag, and due to the fact that the front seat is a 50/50 split bench (obviously both sides lined up together). The seats, front and rear, are the stuffed armchair variety padding for those who are familliar with 1980's sedans. Does anyone know if the rear centre seat could be retrofitted with a shoulder strap?
We are in Ontario, Canada if that helps.
Thanks for any help!
