Graco Snugride for newborn with no head support

Hello car seat geniuses!

I have a Graco Snugride 32 that is two years old from my son, and am 37 weeks along with number 2. This has been a rough pregnancy and we are just now pulling out the car seat to get it all set up. It seems that I cannot locate the newborn headrest, and my husband has been ill for days trying to pass a kidney stone and has been unable to help me move some heavy items to try to locate the head support.

I am worried I will go into labor before I can locate the head support, but I seem to recall not using it for long with my son. We do not plan to make any long car trips after the baby is born, except routine drs visits and such. Is the seat safe to use without the head rest, with rolled up receiving blankets for head support? Please advise! Thanks!

The head rest is not needed. It is there to sell the seat. Parents think it is so needed! Make sure the car seat is installed at the proper angle (about 45 degrees), and that the baby's head does not fall on its chest. You can roll receiving blankets on the sides, if you would like!
