Traveling with a tall 5 year old - car seat solution

My DNi is flying with my SIL to Florida for spring break. She is a tall 5 year old (90+%). She has nearly outgrown the harnessed Nauti by height and weighs roughly 45 lbs.

She rides in a high back harmony booster in the grandparent's car. Mom and dad were planning to bring the booster with them on vacation. Given the desire to limit luggage, would you be comfortable with this child using a LBB for the trip? They will be using a rental car, so difficult to predict exactly what vehicle will be used.

I have a RSTV that I will also loan her, but given DNi's personality, I am not sure the vest is going to fly.

She will be in the car for roughly a half hour to and from the airport (each way) and then for short 5 minute trips around town during their stay.

My 5 year old has used a backless booster on vacation (we used Bubble Bums on our last 2 trips). But, he sits well and when we travel, we generally aren't in the car at times that he wants to sleep.

When DS1 was 7, I used a backless booster for him on vacation and we had an hour car ride at night. He complained the entire time that he was uncomfortable because there was no place to rest his head (he's used to using a booster with a back).
What about her personality makes you think that the vest won't work? Would the same issues be a problem with the booster?

I use no back boosters for kids that age if they are going to be in situations where they will sit properly, but it depends on the kid.

Well - she is very impulsive and I am concerned that the vest is going to feel like a straight jacket to her (she struggles to settle down). She doesn't complain about her harnessed seat regularly, but she's know that since she was little. She does fine in a high back booster for limited trips.

ScoutingBear - I assume this is for your DS#2. If you think a safeguard go might help you, PM me. He might be too tall for it, but I don't know.
