Angle questions

If a parent chooses to go against the manual stating a seat must be installed at 45*, such as for a toddler, how would she know how upright to install the seat? In terms of comfort for my son it is not an issue to have our Pria at 45*, but I also thought I've read for older babies that it's not as safe & they need to be more upright? I'm not certain on that though and very well could be making it up (I couldn't find that comment in a cursory search here). The more I read through this forum, I feel like every day something makes me think of a new car seat question, and they're each weirder/dumber/more obvious than the last, so I'm sorry if this is a silly question. Obviously I don't want to mess with anything if it's safe as it is.

Generally (emphasis on generally :D) the acceptable angle range for a rear facing seat is 30-45 degrees. Obviously 45 degrees is absolutely necessary for a newborn without head control, for babies over ~6 months, more upright is acceptable, provided the manufacturer doesn't specify otherwise.
