Question Would you turn FF for a trip?

Next week I'm driving 400 miles with the kids. N is 3yrs 8 months and dying to FF. E is not nearly as tolerant of long drives but does a lot better when she can see her sister.

She's usually RF in an XTLS she'll probably fit until she's 5 but I've told her she can turn at 4. If I do turn her do I put her in the Maestro I got for my mom's van or turn her radian around (she doesn't know it can FF)? Or I could let her ride in the Maestro on the way there and try to convince my friend to put her 3 yr old in it instead of his outgrown, expired seat, then take her home in the radian.

At that age I'd be fine ffing, but in my experience, kids are more comfy for sleeping when rfing. If you did go ffing, I'd use the radian, not the maestro. It's not as cushy as the radian and the maestro harness can rub the neck. I wouldn't want to find out it was uncomfortable while on a long drive.

I don't know if you have the room, but on long drives we took an extra seat. That way if we had a potty accident we could swap out seats, and also we'd put them RF for nap time.

I have lots of space. I have a mini van for me my 2 kids and a 19 yr old. Having an extra seat might come in handy during the visit.

I turn my kids FF for long trips but when I turned DD2 FF for a recent trip (at 2.5 yrs) she got car sick because she's so used to RF. Bad mommy, I know. So that's something to think about.

I always turn mine rf for long trips. It's more comfortable according to my 5 year old. Plus it's easier to reach them, and it is quieter for us in the front because their little voices are going the other way. And they can't see the awful (as in bad for us) snacks me and dh always get on road trips, so they don't ask for any.

This is what we do. Turn em rfing for long trips. They sleep better, they're quieter, they don't drop toys as often, and they don't see us snacking. Lol.
Sometimes id stop and switch my ds ffing if he wanted while on a trip.

She's been turned a few times. She's never had any problems FF for 1 1/2 hrs in the car. If I let her go FF I'll make sure she has the option of RF even if that means messing with the safe stop, RF boot, and angle adjuster to flip her.

My 4-year-old is RF but will be FF on our trip because the seat we're bringing will only go FF for her stats, and we're not lugging the Radian on the plane and around with us.

Last month we had a ~4.5 hour car trip one way (I can't remember how many miles it was). DD asked to be RFing even though she's been FFing for at least 18 months. I installed her Regent in the 3rd row in case she got uncomfortable. Honestly, u thought for sure she'd last an hour and be begging for her "leopard seat" but she loved it! She said it was way more comfortable for her legs, since I put the armrests on the captain's chair down and she rested them on there.

On the way home we drove back at bedtime and she slept the whole way with no complaints.

If you want to turn her, I'd put her in the Maestro but pack the Radian in case she changes her mind. Especially since you said you might have use for a spare seat on the trip anyway.

I would keep them both installed and let her decide which one to ride in. That way, you don't have to mess with installing seats during the trip.
