Flying with 2 BF 85's: Check, gate check, or put on plane???

DH and I will be flying to Florida in March with DS #1 (5 1/2) and DS #2 (3 1/2). We have to bring our 2 BF 85's, since we will be renting a car and driving in Florida. My dilemma is whether or not to check the carseats at baggage, gate-check them, or try to put them both on the plane.

Everything I have read about checking carseats, leads me to think this is not safe for the carseat (do to possible unseen damage that may occur). The only way we would have to check them is in a carseat bag.

Gate-check, internet reviews have given me mixed answers re: damaging the carseat.

Do we dare carry-on carseat for a 5 1/2 and 3 1/2 year old??

If we carry carseats to the gate, we would have them each attached to a Go Go Kidz travelmate, so transporting through the airport would not be an issue.

Any suggestions are more than welcome!! Thank you!!!:)

Do you mean Frontier 85's? Is there anything else you could bring for your 3.5 yr old. Bringing something your 3.5 yr old could use on the plane would cut out checking one seat.

Has your 5.5 yr old used a booster? If you're not going to be doing a ton of driving and you think he will sit properly I would bring the bottom of a Turbobooster as a carryon and pack the back in luggage. That way you'll at least you'll have a backless booster if you're luggage is lost.

I wouldn't want to travel with one frontier much less two!

Yes I meant Britax Frontier 85's.

No, I don't have another carseat for either DS. I have no other option for DS #2 (3.5 yo).

We will be driving for 4+ hours on the interstate, so I would like to have DS#1 (5.5 yo) harnessed into the Frontier 85.

Of the options you listed, the only ones that are good is to bring the seats on the plane and use them. However, if you can swing it, I would instead get one or two RSTVs - Ride Safer Travel Vest for one or both of them to use. They don't use them on the plane, but they fit in carry-on luggage and then use them in the vehicle when you get there. Sell for around $100 each depending on where you get them.
