Parking lot safety

At home I park in a carport feet from a walk way to a play area. There are always kids going to and from the play area and walking by the carport. Every time I back out I'm scared to death that a kid has snuck up behind my car after I got in and I can't see them. After reading a story recently about a mom who backed over her own daughter (saddest thing EVER BTW) I decided a solution will be that I need to start backing into my parking spot. Only problem is that I suck at backing into parking spots! Anyway, just my weekend rambling, hopefully after some practice this will improve.

Really, it's a good habit to back into all parking spots (at least, when it's possible to do so). I find it much easier to back into spots than out.

ETA: You've reminded me I need to practice backing up with the trailer, LOL. I know I *can* do it. I move it & put it away all the time at home. But I'm still chicken to take the load of trash to the dump (where we back up to a huge trough) because I'm afraid the trailer will go wonky and everyone will roll their eyes and say women shouldn't pull trailers .

I'd just get a backup camera. Costco had them for $99, altho I haven't seen it in a while. I'm sure Amazon and other places have similar ones.

Do you approach your vehicle from the rear? The SK Spot the Tot program teaches adults to walk around the vehicle before getting in. Of course, that still doesn't keep kids from running up after you've checked.

After having one now for nearly a year, I'll never own another vehicle without a backup camera. Having that view is priceless. But, it's also created other problems for me: by the time I've checked left, right, and back, by the time I start backing up, sometimes a car has snuck up on me and I end up pulling out in front of them.

I had no idea you could get these after market. Thanks!

I walk up to my car from behind so I know exactly what is happening there at that point but it's the racing kids to/from the play area that scares me.

I've been backing in for the past few days and getting much better at it!

Oh and I always keep the heavy stuff in the trunk area so I'm always back there even when not at home. Hey never thought about keeping projectiles in the trunk also forces you to check out behind your car.
