Radian, Regent or Recaro for 2003 VW Jetta

My son is currently in a RA, but he is a half inch from outgrowing it. My husband and I need the front seats almost all the way back to drive comfortably, as I am 5'10" and he's 6' tall. My son just turned 3, and he is 39.5" and 35 lbs.

I have a new baby rfing, and I want to know if it would be better to get a Radian65 and put it in the center (if possible) or get a Regent/Recaro and put it behind the driver's seat. I am just thinking that the Radian is a better fit for a small car like my Jetta... but I don't know if it will install properly in my DH's 2001 Jeep Cherokee. There is no data on a Radian installing in a 2001 Jeep Cherokee.

Thanks for your help!

Ok, what seat is the baby currently in. How old is the baby and what is his/her weight.

Are you wanting a new seat recommendation for your oldest? Because, why doesn't the new baby just go in the oldests RA? The RA is great for rear-facing in small cars. I would NOT recommend the Radian for rear-facing because it takes up the most room. It has a very tall shell back, and is not as adjustable rear-facing as the Britax's are.

The new Recaro's are not out yet, which is what I would recommend over the older Recaro seats.

The new Recaro would work for either child.

I am the OP - I just need a seat for my 3 year old! The baby will use the RA eventually... he is only a month old. I just need to know what the best fit safety-wise will be in my small car. I need leg room to drive safely!

Sorry I wasn't clear in my first post - I reread it and can see how it was confusing. I just need a FF seat for my oldest son.

Well for FF'ing you aren't really going to have a problem with it interferring with the front passengers space. Rear-facing seats are the ones that take up the most space.

How many more years of use are left on the Roundabout? Do you plan on having more kids? I ask because they can help decide which seat to recommend. The Radian is a great seat in many ways, but it also has its downfalls, like installation compatibility issues. It can also be very hard to install. It is the cheapest of the three, so if you can make it work, it would be a great seat. It is also narrow, so if your son is a big boy or has wide shoulders I wouldn't recommend it.

The Regent is a Forward-facing only seat

The Recaro's new seats are not out yet so we don't know much about how they install. However, the have 19inch tops slots(which is very high), so it will last your son a long time. It also has TSIP (true Side impact Protection) whereas the Radian and Regent do not have(they just have sip only).
The new Recaro's also rear-face to 35lbs, and Forward face to 70 lbs.

So you think all those seats FFing would fit fine in my tiny backseat? I think we're done having kids. The RA has just shy of 3 years left. My oldest son has a long torso, but he's long and skinny.
