Short crotch strap on Dorel seats - Is it the same strap as the Apex?

I just called Dorel customer service because I read here that some people called to get the crotch strap replaced for a longer one. They looked up the model numbers and told me that they're only making the longer straps for the Apex. Is it the same buckle? I'm tempted to just call back and give them the Apex model number. I don't have a problem with it, but my mom has a hard time not pinching DD's legs with it. So is it the same buckle?

 Should've mentioned what seats I was talking about. The one in our car is the Alphasport, which I really don't have a problem with (well, I pinched her leg once) and the one in my mom's car is a cheapo Dorel harness/booster combo. That's the one my mom has trouble with. Since they both have the same buckle I was wondering if the Apex did too. So I guess my question is, are they buckles on the different Dorel seats interchangable? Because if they are I would try to get a longer 'Apex' buckle to use for the seat in my mom's car.

I have pinched my DD's legs in her Scenera. Boy did I feel like a moron.

I don't know the answer to your question, but I don't think that I would chance it. They may seem secure at first but in fact may not fit correctly. Would you want to find out that they are not interchangeable in a crash?:twocents:

A friend of mine just ordered 2 Apex's for her DS and they came today. One of her major complaints is how short the crotch strap is. Do they make a longer one than the one it comes with? If so, I'll tell her to call Dorel.

Yeah. From what I've heard, you call them and request one, and they send one for free.

You'd probably have to give them a serial number too, not just a model number. But FWIW, someone else said that they received the buckle AND the tongue pieces to thread onto the straps. So everything "fits" together.
