How do you deal

With so many expired car seats for sale? I look on CL for toys, books, clothes etc. all the time. Since I started coming to this board, I can't help but search for car seats. Last night I emailed three people selling infant seats, just to see what the DOM was. One was 97 and another was 2002.

I can't decide if I should offer less than they are asking, or take my chances and tell them about the expiration. I can't stand knowing that there are so many expired seats being sold not only on my local CL, but everywhere. That's not even including garage sales, ebay, and who knows where else.

This is a helpful checklist to hand out, or memorize, or tell people about...whatever, it's a useful tool http://www.cpsafety.com/articles/usedseat.aspx

I think Judi has a good idea to offer to buy used/old seats on craigslist for a couple bucks...it's cheap for her, and gets the word out that seats are bad if old, and she's gotten a few out of circulation.

Mostly it drives ME crazy if I think about it, so I just try to educate as best I can and let it go from there. A funky old seat is probably better than no seat, statistically, so I can't get TOO upset about it or I'd be nuts.

This woman wants $20 for a 10 year old seat. I'm gonna offer her $5, and see what she says.

The other one still has two years left, would you leave it?

Yeah, I will buy for $5 and under. I have posted on craigslist in my area about expired seat and about car seat checks in my area. I know I have gotten atleast one parent come to the check and get a new seat. I have picked up a lot of seats. The people just didn't know. So far, all expired seats are off my craigslist. So happy!

I started this thread about it.

As you can see, it doesn't work in all areas.

I just posted something similar, so we'll see how long it lasts. I have posted some of the info once or twice before, and I think it was flagged once right away, but the other one stayed up for days.
