Is the Star Seat good for a 3 yr old?

Ds3 will start preschool next Monday and will be riding the bus. The bus is a big bus if that makes a difference. At the meeting today I asked about a seat for him and I swear they thought I had 2 heads. I was told they only use seats if the child has special needs. I demanded a seat and they called transportation. They were told there could be a Star seat put on for him. I said that was fine but know nothing about them. I googled and it looks appropriate. He is about 28 pounds and 35 inches. Is being in the Star seat better than just sitting on the seat with no seat belt/harness for a just turned 3 yr old?

Yes, the SafeGuard STAR seat is appropriate for a 3 year old. It's even pretty easy to use and install. This should work just fine for your DS. A harnessed seat is indeed safer for a small 3 year old than just sitting on the bus seat alone or in a lap belt. Compartmentalization (safety feature of large school buses) works best for kids who are about the size of a 5-6 year old or larger, so I agree that your son needs a harness. Will you be harnessing your son, or will someone on the bus be buckling him? If it's someone else, you might want to ask if you can do it the first day (or at least be present to watch them do it) to make sure it's adjusted properly. Your son may even be able to help tighten it (the harness is tightened by pulling up on two straps, one at each hip).
