Recommendations for 2 dr 95 Civic - 2 kids

We have a 1995 Civic that (for now) we'd like to keep. We're wondering if there's any combination that would work where our 17 month old DD (22 lbs/ 29") remains RF in the middle and our 5 yr old DD (34 lbs/ 3'4") is in a 5 pt harness as long as possible.

Right now we have the little one in a britax marathon RF and the older one in the same model FF but it's really a pain to put the little one in (we basically have to have the elder wait while we use her space to sit while put the younger in).

Is there any way to keep 1 of the marathons RF and put it in the middle? Is there a narrow combination seat for our older daughter?

Hi! And welcome! Are there any other people riding in the vehicle? Have you installed a tether anchor for your forward-facing seat? If not, you should. If I'm remembering right, it's a pretty simple DIY job (my SIL had a ~'94 civic way back when). You might want to put it in the middle position because the FF child is less protected than the RF child. This would also make loading easier.

The Maestro is a narrow-ish FF harness. If you need narrower, there's the Radian, but that's expensive and a tough install sometimes. Why are you replacing the Marathon? If it isn't expired or outgrown, would you be able to keep using the same seats if you just switched positions? Or put them both outboard?

We were thinking to get rid of 1 of the Marathons b/c we assumed the 2 wouldn't fit with the RF in the middle and the FF on the outside. The other issue is that with both on the outside it is a challenge to put our little one in the RF.

We'll try the RF in the middle and see if it fits.

I'll look into installing the tether - thank you for the tips.

I'd put the FF child in the center, too. Then put the RF child behind either the driver or passenger and load the children from the opposite side.

We drove a 2-door 1983 ford escort and 2-door 1994 nissan sentra for a long while when our older 2 were little. They were both rf outboard in ra. When small enough I would slide them down the seat. When they were big enough they would climb into their own seats and I would reach over the back to belt them.

I would look at the Evenflo Maestro as a forward-facing seat for your 5yo. This seat only has a 50lb limit, but the top harness slots are higher than the Marathon. It will work until you decide to move your older child to a booster seat.
