Cybex X-Fix for 5-year-old?

My cousin is looking for a booster for her son who will be 5 in a few months. She's dead-set on boostering him, so we won't go there in terms of why he shouldn't be boostered. He's on the smaller side, but meets minimum requirements. I'm not sure of his exact height and weight. He's been riding in a TB when they're on vacation and she says he's done great about sitting up/straight, even when sleeping.

I know nothing about the X-Fix. Would it be OK for a shorter/lighter 5-year-old? Or if not, what boosters would fit a child of that size well?

I can ask for height/weight specifics if necessary.

Didn't someone just post a pic of how surprisingly well a 2yo fit in it? (they were showing how small it would adjust, not that they were letting a 2yo ride in it).

I recently tried my 4.5 year old in a couple of boosters for fun. The cybex was the only booster that really fit him well. Even the turbo was too deep and the shoulder belt guides were way up by his ears. My ds is almost 34lbs, 39" tall, 12.5" torso. If your cousin's son is similarly compact then I would imagine the cybex would work.

cybex boosters fit small riders really well because in europe, it's designed to restrain kids from 20-40lbs with a shield/pallas before becoming a traditional highback booster.

it's on the shorter side (about 2" shorter than the turbo) on it's highest setting, but for a petite kid, that wouldn't bother me. It just means it won't be the only booster she buys.

with zulily, the ones that are 85.99 are still shipped for about 10 dollars shipping, so you could still shop around and get whatever color for 99.99 at a lot of other places (like albeebaby)

Here is Dd at 4.75 about 44 in tall and 35ish lbs. It fits her amazingly well.

So it's like 17"?? Is that right? that's crazy short...

Ds is 4.5 & rides beautifully in a booster, awake or asleep. He is tall & skinny & fits well in both his turbo booster & Monterey. He likes the Monterey better, out of the two of them, but really really loves his frontier (which he'll definitely outgrow before he turns 5) :(

My skinny ds, 46" and 43lbs, fits nicely in the Compass B570...another booster she might want to look into.

it's 19"... but the belt guide is different... to where you lose a little just due to the headrest wings being lower than the belt guide, if that makes sense.

That sounds odd. I really want one for DD in about a year or so. She's little & short in the torso so maybe that'll be ok. Does it turn into a backless?

ETA: I was wrong. No, it does not turn into a backless booster.

The back comes off, but I'm pretty sure it is NOT allowed to be used backless. (I'm getting ready for work and am pressed for time, or I'd scrounge up my manual and look it up.)

Yes, the Cybex does turn into a backless.

I just looked in the manual, and you are correct and I am wrong. I apparently glossed right over the big yellow bubble that says not to be used without the back.

yep, it's like the Recaro boosters in the respect that even though it can be easily taken apart (and in the case of the Probooster and the Cybex, they would make fantastic backless boosters if they were first crash tested and approved), they are not tested and approved for use without the back.

Well that's dumb. Talk about asking for misuse!

well, yeah.... which is why I wish that all of them that don't allow use as a backless would come put together... and while still have the OPTION to remove the back when cleaning to get those crevices, have the cover designed to be put on/off without taking the back off.
