Westjet Infant Standby

Does anyone know if Westjet still offers infant standby on a direct, domestic flight? If so, has anyone had luck with it?

We are flying direct between Toronto and Vancouver on a mid-day Wednesday, so I'm guessing (hoping) the flights won't be full. DD is 8 months old.

I don't know for *sure*, but my understanding is they do not offer it anymore as such. I have overheard them speaking to parents recently, and they seem to have adopted a more laissez-faire "if there's a free seat you can use it" policy as opposed to an assured "here's your baby's boarding pass" system like infant standby used to be.

Good luck with your travels! :)

thanks very much!
so they'll let me gate check my car seat? i was worried they wouldn't let me bring it through security without a boarding pass for the baby.

You're welcome! :D I'm pretty sure they'll let you gate-check without a boarding pass the same way they will with strollers. It's not the best thing to do with your carseat though; those baggage handlers can be pretty rough. :(

It's been awhile since I flew WJ with a lap baby as I generally buy a seat. But the last time that I did (I assume when my now 2 year old was tiny) the person working the gate indicated that he really wasn't supposed to give me a seat at that point, that *if* a lap baby were going to be allowed to use a seat, it had to be assigned at the main desk's check in. I am confident that their policy wouldn't have become *more* generous, if anything they may have completely eliminated the 'free' seat. The website doesn't seem to address this.

I wouldn't call the new policy "more" generous, it's just more grey. You're right, they don't address it on their website (although infant standby was never there either.) I've spoken to CSRs at their 'Sales Super Centre' about it, and have been told if a seat's available, they'll probably let you use the seat, but it seems they don't have an official, codified policy any more; it's up to whatever staff you're speaking with (and I never like those odds. ;))
