Ok to use d-ring or HUGS from expired Britax?

Just as the title says... I collected a 2004 Marathon from a customer at the shop today, can I hang onto the d-ring for a spare or should I toss it? What about the HUGS?

No on the d-ring. It is the same as the harness/TT/LATCH straps. I don't see why the hugs would be an issue. People kept the old chest clips to use after the design was changed... I personally consider them the same as the chest clip and cover.

I wouldn't. The HUGS have some sort of performance job during the crash. They aren't just a pre-crash positioner like a chest clip.

Maybe call Britax, see what they have to say about it.

Really, you would re-use the chest clip? I already tossed it, but you wouldn't be concerned about an old chest clip becoming brittle and possibly breaking in a crash?

People do... not that Radians are expired but I see all the time people talking about using the old clips. Harnesses shells and straps are all dated. Parts that aren't dated seem more likely to be ok in my mind.

Interesting.... so I just called Britax and she said it's ok to use the HUGS, d-ring, and chest clip off an expired seat?

I still would not use the D-ring. It is made from the same material as the harness... which cannot be re-used.

I believe, though that if rfing tethering isn't required, that using and old strap that might fail wouldn't be a big issue.

Our husky that just expired had HUGS that broke last year, so I bought another set. When I trashed it, I sold the covers and kept the HUGS for our frontier85. Figured they might come in handy as the husky's didn't last 6y. We had no issues with our bv HUGS though.

Since the d ring and chest clip aren't required, per se, I might reuse those.

I would not feel comfortable refusing HUGS. I remember reading here that britax had to add them to reduce HIC or head excursion at higher weights, which is why they are required for forward facing. To me that is something that could have a major impact in a crash.

I do believe the chest clip is SUPPOSED to break in a crash, it's "job" is to make sure the harness straps are in the right place on the child's body and thats it. The chest clip does not hold the child in or anything like that.
