Question 3 children in small car

I will be driving a Pontiac Sunbird convertible for a few days. My children are 14 months - in a forward facing car seat; 4 years in a 5 pt harness booster; and 6 years in a lap/shoulder booster. The rear seat in the Sunbird will not accomodate all 3 child seats. There is no airbag in the front.

Where are the safest positions for my children?

If you can't fit all 3 across the back seat, then I would put the 4 yr old up in the front seat with a 5-point harness. You should read the Sunbird's manual to make sure that a child seat can be installed there--some GM cars from the 90s had seat belts that may have been incompatible with car seats.

The reason I would put a harnessed child up front is the front seat is less safe than the back seat. A properly restrained child would do better there in a crash than a child in a booster seat who may have been out of position for a moment while retrieving a dropped item, for instance.
