SN seat for my neice

Ok...so here's the background:

DN has epilepsy(since infancy) and is on the autism spectrum. She turned 6 in Nov, with little language. She has low tone in her trunk. She has just moved up to the top slots of her GN, so SIL is beginning the hunt for a SN seat for her.

She needs a seat that will offer her support through the trunk and head support as well. Her bus driver and bus aide ask why her head flops around so much when riding the bus.

Here are 2 seats that SIL has begun to look at/been suggested:

They have a GMC Safari Van with a 2,3,3 set up(not sure on yr, but pre-LATCh and TT). They have 2 older children still at home-17 yrs and 14 yrs. And sometimes transport their friends as the 2 oldest are in HS marching band. My brother is a mechanic and I'm confident that he can install the tether anchors that they will more than likely need.

I'm not SN trained, but am thinking about it. Do you have any input or suggestions? They got the GN before the Frontier came out. Now it doesn't make sense to spend $300 on a seat they will need to replace.

Thanks!
Susan

I would skip the Britax Traveller - the slots are not going to be that much higher than the Nautilus to make it worth buying (maybe not higher at all - the Traveller has the top slots listed at 18.75 inches).

I have not worked with that Columbia seat, but it looks like a much nicer design than their older style seats. It has 23" top harness slots, so it should last quite awhile.

Another seat she could look at is the Merritt Roosevelt http://www.eztether.com/ Top harness slot is 22.5", so pretty tall too.

Hope that helps!

The Traveller plus is a Regent that has a dual tether and a special cover that allows for positioning devices and seat pan extender. There are also several other options, such as a harness that allows each side to be individually adjusted. The top slot is 20".

Didn't the Britax website have the Regent listed as 18" or something?

The TP would certainly work although if she is paying OOP for it the Ftontier would last just as long and be way cheaper.

I had that columbia seat here last week. The rep sent one out for us to try and several people did not like the way the harness adjusters sat on the collar bone. I liked everything else about it. I have a bunch of pics, just can't get them on here. They are on my facebook page.

Ds is 8 and moving up from the britax husky. My durable goods rep (insurance is covering the seat) has worked with several of the britax seat. It is a souped up regent/husky. Same slots, but with supports, and a longer harness and higher weight limit.

We also really liked the snugseat pilot, which is a monteray with a 4 pt positioning harness and adjustable supports. It offered a lot of support too. Th erep brought that one to my house too.

I would be glad to link you to my photos or go into more details.
