does anyone know how the radian, nautilus and FN 85..

would do untethered for a 5.5 year old?? I am seriously debating installing harnessed seats for Fiona for her road trip with my parents in July.. just not sure I am ok with her being so light and not in a harness for a 3 hr drive with them.. my mom has no tethers inher car.

I know the nautilus and radian perform very well. Is your mom apposed to having anchors retrofitted? If the vehicle is newer than 1989, the anchors can be retrofitted.

The Nautilus and Radian do well untethered. We don't have data on the FR 85 because it's too new.

no she isn't going to do that, we live far away from them so it isn't like she sees us often enough to drive the kids places often.. but this summer they are taking the kids to story land and it is a big deal.. I was going to ahve Fiona boostered for the trip but I am not sure now how I feel.. I keep hearing stories where it sure sounds like it was a good thing that kids were in the harness when they got into a crash.. She will be 5.5 and is currently about 38 lbs

Ok cause I have a nautilus and radian, now height wise she is very close in the radian so I would have to play that one by ear, but maybe she can use the nautilus.. I have to find out if they are taking her car or my dads, there is a chance they might take my dads and then she would be fine.

If I remember correctly, the nautilus significantly out performed the radian untethered. I could be wrong, but I've had that stuck in my head.

The EFTA did really well too, I think, just as an FYI.

hmm ok they are taking my moms car for the road trip most likely cause my sister wants to go, so no tethers.. of course now that they need the space I was going to go the radian route but hmm.. she has a 2000 toyota avalon.. so it is roomy.. what is safer now.. for a 5.5 year old who is 38 lbs.. maybe even 39 by then who knows, an untethered GN or radian, or a recaro vivo ???

Do you know for sure that she'd do well in a booster for that long of a drive...even when sleeping? If so, then I'd use the booster. If not, I'd use the radian or the nautilus. If either will work, I'd personally pick the nautilus. The few times I've had to have my girls in a harnessed seat untethered, I have used the nautilus.

she does great in her booster, BUT I have never used it for a 3 hr ride before.. she has never fallen asleep in it, so I am not sure how she would do in that case.
