Got a chance to educate my MIL about ERF

Not that it matters much because she doesn't have any kids to buckle up anymore, but I visited MIL with Lily (21 mos) the other day and she walked us out to the car. As I was putting Lily in she said "Isn't she ready to be turned around yet?" She said it in an honest, questioning tone and she knows what a fanatic I am about carseats (but respects my fanaticism). So I took the opportunity to tell her that Lily is 50 times safer (OK, I made that part up) RF than FF at her age and I'll keep her that way until she outgrows the seat. She sounded interested and genuinely concerned, so I explained about the vertibrae calcifying and internal decapitation, etc. Then she was surprised and said "Gee, when I think about the things we let our kids ride in"

I also told her that I hope SIL will keep her 1 year old DS RF for a while longer. I doudt my SIL will really listen to MIL on the subject - SIL would know she was only spewing info that came from me. But my nephew is turning 1 in a few days and he's already over 20 lbs, so she might very well turn him. She's a great mom and I've tried to talk to her about it, but I think she just sees me as a "carseat snob". And she and DH already had a tiff the other day, so I'm not going to rock the boat.

But it was fun to talk to someone who actually listened to me about ERF - even if it was someone over 60 who doesn't drive anymore. :)
