2008 Toyota Highlander- starting to really despise this car

I posted a few days ago about difficulties regarding installing 3 across in our car... I said that we are likely going to end up going the minivan route. But, long story, it looks like that is not going to happen. So I'm back to square one.

So I really need to hear from somebody that they were able to get a good install in the center (w/ a seatbelt) in an '08 or later Highlander. I need either a convertable or FF carseat (for my DS who will be almost 5). We can 'fit' 3 carseats in there, but we can't get a tight install in the center. We've tried the Marathon and the Radian, both RF and FF. We can get a good install with the infant seat, but that will only last us a year or so.

I've had an MA forward facing in the middle of a 2010 Highlander with no problems at all.....I found it worked quite well because the base fit nicely on the seat. Is the seat belt not locking and causing the seat to not install nice and tight?
