Went to the car seat check today and got an A+(I even schooled them a little :D ).
Although I have a question for techs or instructors, are you trained to tell parents of older rear facers they can forward face? This is the second check ive gone too and both time they have told me"Since her legs are now touching the back of the seat you can turn her forward facing". I jsut thought it was weird it wasnt the law they are stating because heck if i go with legs touching that was at like 6 months. I jsut told them id prefer to rear face until 4 AND 30lbs.

They told me to turn my little guy at age 3 and of course, my dd who will be 4 next week, she can turn any time but they did mention that she still has 4 lbs before I have to turn her.

I never say that. I always say "you can continue to RF in this seat until x pounds, or the kiddo's head is *here*. At that point, you can come to us again or you can read the manual carefully, raise the straps, put it in FF mode like *this*, top tether, and continue using the seat until Y pounds or the shoulders are *here*."

I was wondering who that was with the true fit premier, older rfer, and a cowmoo frontier. I was in the class and we were only told that rfing as long as possible was best and to rf to the limits of the seat. If it was the regular techs telling you about ffing, they were using their own knowledge from outside of class.

Yep that was me. the two guys that were helping me told me since Addilynns legs were touching the backseat i could go ahead and flip her forward. I politely told him she was going to stay rear facing as long as she fit.

That's what I say too, except I follow it with "and I sincerely recommend you wait until one of those two things happen to give kiddo as much time as possible for the gaps in her neck bones to fill in" and "If anyone tries to scare you about needing to turn so she doesn't get a broken leg now that her feet touch, just ignore them. Broken legs are actually more common in ffing kids than in rfing kids"

I told someone the 'better cast it than casket' speech the other day... At least two kids are being turned back rear facing now, thankfully. Sometimes the non sugar coated truth is the only way to go...

I just sent an email to the lead instructor suggesting that next class they make the rfing limits clear so people aren't making things up. I mentioned what the techs told you and lorismurph.

I've been told "they can rf until xxxx limits are reached" at the 3 checks I've been to (always had at least one rfing). :) In fact at one check, I just had ds2 with me who I was moving to ds1's old convertible and moving ds1 to a nautilus. The tech was all concerned and thought I wanted to move ds2 to the nautilus (he was under 1 1/2 I believe) and I had to explain, no, my other child was just at preschool. I don't know what she would have said if I'd said yes (when he obviously still fit rfing in the radian I had him in), but I could tell she didn't think it was a good idea. We have good techs here!

I've also been told by the CPST who is working with me that I should be a tech. Of course, finding a course I can attend is the only issue there...
