Going on a 5 hour trip, booster or 5 pt harness?

We will be heading to Pittsburgh within the month. I'm torn between harnessing DD2 again or letting her booster ride. She's been riding in a booster for the last few months and been very good. She's been riding in a Clek Oobr in DH's vehicle and rotating between a Maxi Cosi Rodi XR and Romer Kidfix in my vehicle. We also have a Vivo but don't use it much. The Rodi actually has a recline feature that we use alot and it fits her well. But with her size I'm wondering if I should put her back in a harness for this trip. We have a GN.

Her stats fresh from the school nurse are:

Height: 45.75 inches
Weight: 40 lbs
BMI 4.62%

She's 5 yrs 8 months old.

We havn't traveled a long distance since she was 3 yrs old and was obviously harnessed then.

What are your thoughts, mommas. Thanks!

Do you think she's likely to sleep a good bit? What's the longest trip she's taken in the booster?

Longest trip in a booster has been one hour. She has slept in it. Being that the trips are only one hour she falls asleep right about the time we are arriving at the destination. She LOVES the wings and snuggles her head right in.

Wait, are you coming to visit MEEEE???? :D

What time of day are you driving? We tend to drive at night while the kids sleep, so I definitely harness her (plus my DD is a HEAVY sleeper). If its a time of day that she might just snooze on and off, I think she'd be OK.

DD recently decided that the harness is uncomfortable with harness covers (you'd think it'd be the opposite) but I think it's a ploy to use the booster more, since she switches back and forth. What would she think about going back in the Nautilus?

That's a tough call, esp since you've never seen her sleep for a while in the booster to know if/how slumpy she'll get.

She does get head slump in the GM and complains constantly about the harness being too tight.

I ordered a Frontier 85 to check out so if it fits in my van then I think she'll ride in that. Maybe we'll have to take both. We'll have the room.

I'd let her ride in a booster... I'd use one with a recline feature...the maxi cosi or the clek... but I'd keep her in the booster.

usually as long as they are comfortable and able to sleep in the booster, they are fine on long trips (but reclines do help)

I'd put her back in a harness for the trip. IMO keeping a sleeping kiddo positioned correctly in a booster on a long trip is a huge pain in the rear!!! My dd is 7.5 and I'm still all over her not to slouch too much this way or that way while sleeping. I end up reaching back there (while dh is driving) and pushing her one way or another to make sure she is still positioned well. I'm a bit of a freak about it. A harness would just make it much easier and keep her in position 100% of the time.

I ordered a Frontier 85 and it came today. It installed short belt path in my Sedona like a dream, unlike the original Frontier that was lots of work to install! DD likes it alot so I'm hoping to reharness her full time. She thought the cup holders were so cool too. I ordered Onyx, which we had when we had the Boulevard. Wishing I had a spare cowmoo cover for back up. I was amazed how cushy the seat area is too. I ordered from Amazon and the DOM was February 2011! :D
