Question Fitting three kids in 2006 Subaru Outback

I'm looking for advice on occasionally traveling with three children in a 2006 Subaru Outback. We have two kids: a 4.5 yr old (about 38 lbs) in a Britax Marathon and a 7 yr old (just over 50 lbs) in a Graco High-Back Booster. Each kid sits next to the door in the back seat.

What is the best way to fit a third child on occasion? Typically it would be a friend - most often another 6- or 7-yr old, but perhaps another 4- or 5-yr old. - who needs a ride home from school or to an after-school activity. Ideally, the third seat would be another Graco High-Back Booster.

Can a third seat fit in the back? Should someone sit up front, and if so, who? Can the high-back booster be used without the armrests?

Thank you!

Where do you have the kids sitting? The easiest way to try it out is to put the MA in the middle and try the graco turbo on both outboard positions.

You can not use the graco turbos without the armrests. They are required. Only the old Britax parkway didn't have armrest and it is no longer made.

Having someone sit up front would be a last resort. We do have someone sit up front in our 6 passenger extended cab, because 4 kids can't sit in the back. It is not our main family car though.

The front seat rule of thumb is the most protected kid goes in the front seat. So, in your case it would be the 5-point ff. I would get a seat that sat more on the seat for this and sat closer to the back of the seat, like the evenflo meastro. You could also try the meastro between to boosters in the back seat. It is a narrow seat. It ff only. The harness goes to 50# and then turns into a hbb.

The 2006 Outback is a very difficult car in which to fit three children. It might be possible, but it won't be easy. My sister has a 2006 Outback and has not been able to safely fit three children in her car. That middle seat is just too difficult in which to install most seats.

Well, I don't know whether another high-back booster would work, but with the seats in question I would try the MA in the middle and 2 backless TB, assuming a high-back doesn't fit, on either side. I've got this car and I've installed seats in the center. It's a PITB, that's for sure, but I haven't yet found anything truly incompatible--always safe, just not rock-the-car solid--but everything is a pain to get in there. The MA MIGHT sit up high enough on its base to allow someone to buckle a booster, but I don't know for sure (and I've never installed one in the center, 'cause I don't own one). I've got to imagine that a 7 year old in a backless booster in the back seat is safer than a kid up front.
