Ford Freestyle?

Anyone have one? Were thinking about going to check this one out. It's an 06 with 61,000 miles. I'm a little worried about the transmission though. There seem to be a lot of reviews about them having bad transmissions but then they get good ratings for being reliable

It looks a little roomier than the Mazda5 (the car we think really want) which DH would like. Or are they about the same? The one were looking at has captains chairs and no center console so the third row would be easy to get to.

Or should we just keeping looking for the perfect Mazda5

No specifics on the Freestyle but Ford automatic transmissions are notorious for starting to slip every 60,000 miles if you don't have the transmission fluid flushed and changed. (Not a big deal you should do it for all cars but the Fords just seem to notice. :) )I've had several Ford vehicles over the years and had a retired Ford service guy tell me that years ago and it has really seemed to be true with all of mine. I've never had transmission problems with any of mine. Good luck with your hunt.

I have an 2002 Ford escape. This was my first Ford and am thinking of getting a new vehicle. If I get an suv I will get another escape...if I get a car I want a Ford fusion. I love my Ford. Very little problems with it. It now has 123,000 miles I've owned it for 5 years. Just this past year I noticed my car not switching gears correctly. I took it in had the fluid flushed like pp said and back to new. I am on the fence of a new vehicle because I like it and its pd off..hate to pay a car payment to save on gas $

The Freestyle transmission is different than most or all other Ford transmissions. It uses a Volvo drivetrain (Ford owned Volvo for several years). The transmission is a CVT (continuous variable transmission) which means it varies the gear ratios constantly instead of having set 'gears'. It is very smooth to drive since the car is never between gears. It is different to get used to as far as how to drive the car when you need significant acceleration, but I have had no problem transitioning from driving a very sporty small car. Cargo space is great. I have to leave now, but free feel to pm me your email address, and I'll send you pics of various baby equipment in it, and how it works for us.

I know! I love my pd for vehicle but with gas prices going up, and I recently accepted a new job offer further from home had me rethinking what car I drove. If I get a diff. Vehicle I want it gently used. Low to mid miles, and no more than 5 or 6 yrs old. If the right deal presents itself than I'm in...if not ill hold out. I love not having a payment. It seems silly to me to want to save $ on gas when I will have a payment, insurance will go up, and plates would go up...kinda doesn't seem worth it.

I have a Freestyle. Looks just like that one, except mines an 07 and has a second row bench. (And I paid a heck of a lot more for mine... :p) It's loads roomier than the Mazda 5 (I was just at an auto show today playing with the mazda5...lol) I really love my Freestyle and I have a million pictures of it with various car seats in it too (including the two you have in your siggy) if you want me to share any specific info I can!

Thanks :) We called the seller yesterday and someone else was already coming to see it so they were going to call us back and we havnt heard from then yet. Were still a worried about the transmission anyways. Those of you who drive one, how many miles do you have on it? If we had a diagnostic run on it would it be likely to show potential tranny problems or is it one of those things that doesnt show up til its gonna go?

The seats we would be working with are 2 regular TrueFits, one Nauti, one XTSL, and one Complete Air. DS is FF in any of the seats. DDs primary seat is a RF TF. If she outgrows the TFs 35lb RF limit I'd like to use the XTSL for her or get her a MR.

I really like the Freestyle. Darn google making me all worried :p

I don't have any tranny problems.... yet... lol I have 55k on mine. Never tried a true fit in mine, the Nauti installs well w/ LATCH I've had a bit of trouble w/ the seatbelt because the seat belts are short, rigid, and forward of the bight. Do-able though. The complete air installs beautifully in both the second and third row  Quite upright, though, w/o a noodle. The seats are very flat, which is great for some seats, bad for others (hello radian, I'm talking about you). The Radian does install beautifully RF, but not any more upright than 40*. Challenging FF for the same reason as the Nauti. The MyRide also installs easily in every seat (even the funky center seat on my 2nd row bench seat! Except I cant get it RF there. So far the only seat I can get rear-facing in that position is an infant seat w/base or radian. but if you are looking at the captains chairs it wont be a problem lol)

I have an 06 Freestyle and it's been really reliable. I just turned over 100,000 and the only issue I've had is that the throttle body had to be replace. I wish I had the captain's chair instead of the 2nd row bench. I'm jealous! I really like my car a lot and I'm getting around 22 mpg --mostly highway.
