Poor adult seat belt fit

I had a doctor's appt I was not allowed to drive to and then lunch yesterday with a friend who drives a very low to the ground (fancy) convertible BMW of some kind. When I sat in the passenger seat, the seatbelt was clear up on my stomach. I was so uncomfortable for the ride and felt very unsafe. I am only a little over 5'1 and about 115lbs but I am able to have a decent fit in most cars. She on the other hand is 5'11 and it looked fine on her.

I felt like I should have taken dd's Monterey and used it backless. Any advice for a better fit if I ride with her again?
