Ds will probably not last much longer in the harness mode, he is 4 1/2, going on 55lbs and is 48 inches, but i still plan to keep him harnessed until he gets closer to 65 lbs, but where is the info regarding the transition? Thanks.

What seat are you using now for him?

Does it turn into a booster? Graco Nautilus (65lb harness) and Britax Frontier (80/85lb harness) are the ones that are good for longer harnessed and then become good boosters. Otherwise it is recommended to "booster train" the child to get him/her used to riding in the booster on short trips before going into a booster for all rides.

The Graco Turbobooster is a nice and inexpensive booster seat that fits children pretty well.

Here is some info on booster training

Our ds2 turns 5 in march, 55# and 46", so about the same size. We bought him a turbo last summer for in dhs extended cab truck. His britax husky won't fit and we didn't have any other options for under $100. He only rides in it a couple of times a month but has done great. He has even slept in it.

His husky is expiring in may and he is getting a monterey. We tried it and he fit great. It also doesn't tip in the 3rd row of my minivan like the turbo does. Turbo works great in dhs truck and captain chairs in the minivan.

You could try the nautilus. It harnesses to 65#. If he is wide shouldered it might not work though. Ds2 is on the top slots.

the britax frontier works well for ds2, but he has done great in a booster and wants to ride in the 3rd row of the minivan where he can't ride if he is harnessed.

Do you have an extra spot in you car that you could put a booster in so you could try one on short trips, but still harness on longer trips to start?
