'01 Taurus Broken Tether

Hello,

I have a 2001 Taurus sedan and I've noticed that the passenger side rear seat top tether anchor is broken. The anchor has not completely come loose, but it appears to have broken free from the anchor (weld) point.

My car is definitely not under warranty, but is Ford liable for this failure?

You can double check the online NHTSA vehicle recall database at http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/recalls/recallsearch.cfm to see if the car has a related recall or safety notice and pursue the remedy for it at no charge if it has a recall. Definitely inquire at a Ford dealership or Ford corporate (tel. 800-392-3673) about remedying it, too, recall or not. If there's no pertinent recall, was it in use during a crash, or in use during normal driving only, or never in use at all before you noticed the issue? If it's either of the latter two scenarios (normal use or never used), you might have a chance at getting it repaired/replaced gratis by Ford, and I'd also urge filing a complaint with NHTSA about it at https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/. If you were involved in a crash and believe it's damaged from the crash, then it's a grayer area about having a shot at Ford covering it, and its repair/replacement might be covered by your car insurance or the at-fault driver's insurance. :twocents:
