Anton's Law?

In reading something else, I saw reference to an "Anton's Law".
I found it but don't really understand it.

It sounds more like a law
to tell someone
to make some other laws
or something like that.

And it seems to have fizzled out a bit, do ya' think?

Can anyone explain it to me, in simple terms?

Anton was a child killed when an adult seatbelt failed to restrain him and he was killed in a rollover. Anton's Law was passed which, according to my CPST manual, required the following:

- performance requirements for CRS's for children over 50lbs (incl. boosters)
- develop 10-yr-old dummy
- require lap and shoulder combintation belt in center rear seating position
- evaluate integrated CRS's

Does that clear it up any? :)

So is it really a "law"? One website said that it was a Federal law that endorsed 6 and 60 for boosters, but I didn't really find anything else to back that up. I wish it was true!

Here:

http://www.babyconnection.com/buyingguides/carseats/#safety

It says: "A 2002 federal law known as Anton's Law requires that children ride in a car seat until they're at least 6 years old or 60 pounds, and some states have even stricter regulations. The police may stop you and fine you if you don't comply."

There is no federal law regarding boosters, although "6 and 60" sounds great to me! Child restraint laws are left up to the individual states... The law mainly governs the production and testing standards for the boosters, not the use of them. And also the shoulder belt requirement, etc.

I think it melded into the TREAD act in part, too... ? (which you have to google and then not click the first answers, which are literally about tire tread, lol, but it's really about testing to higher weights, side impact, tougher standards all around).

Anton was a 4 yo killed when the car he was in with his mother rolled off a road and he flew right out of his lap/shoulderbelt (his mom is a journalist and worked hard to get this issue noticed...lots of booster laws now, and she was the basic catalyst.. Autumn Alexander Skeen, if you feel like researching more :) )
