Infant in a 3-in-1

I know that newborns for the most part will not fit snugly in a 3-in-1 car seat, or a lot of other convertibles for that matter. At what weight would you say they usually would safely fit?
I have a friend who is trying to sort out car seats. She is due in March and their last baby was 10 pounds. Her husband is a big/tall guy and their 2 year old is 40" and 39 pounds so chances are this babe will be big.
They have a 3-in-1 already that their son has just outgrown. They are wondering if the new babe will fit in it or if they are going to need 2 new seats.
Thoughts?

Impossible to say. It has either 10 or 10.5" bottom slots depending on if it's the alpha omega or the alpha omega elite version. (red tabs on top of head rest to adjust height from front is the elite.)

So the likelihood of a newborn fitting in there is lower than the likelihood of a newborn fitting in the old Marathon. (Kids lose growing room in the MA once they're installed, they don't have that same loss in the 3in1 seats.)

My 2 cents is she probably doesn't want to use a 3in1 from birth anyways - it is such a space hog when installed at a 45* angle that it would be pretty difficult to fit properly in many vehicles.

If they are strapped for cash, they can have a rear-adjust Designer22. Or I might be done with my Snugride22 by then. Well, temporarily done anyhow ;).

I put my 12 weeks old, approx 15lbs and 23in long, 9-10in torso in the 3 in 1 and he just fit. Anything before that he would have been too tiny.

My 17 month old dd is still just below the second slots on the AOE. There's no way I could see it fitting a newborn :twocents:
