Harness and booster

I saw the wierdest thing the other day in drive thru.

I saw a child buckled in the 5 point harness and then they seat belt done over top like he was in a booster.

Any cons to this?

Sure hope the seat was latched in, but not something I could see.

I think that's kind of an "old school" thing. Back when car seats went up to 40 pounds max that could be used as a booster, and you had a 24 month old 40 pound kid, some thought that using the harness would keep the kid in his seat but he needed the seat belt. Of course we now have legal, safe options.

I had been meaning to ask this same question! My friend did this before she got the recall fix done on her Maestro. It looked insane.

My mom did that to my oldest with her Century Breverra. She couldn't remember how to install it so instead of phoning me she just did up everything, LOL. I gave her just enough grief to make sure she didn't pull something like that again.

As long as the seatbelt is positioned properly, the only real danger I could think of was that if the seatbelt went over a buckle it could injure the child in a crash with the buckle getting jammed against the child (like maybe breaking a rib with the chest clip?). Of course, that's assuming the child is physically developed enough to be in a 3-pt-seatbelt because the harness would effectively become a pre-impact positioner only. And this is all theoretical because, well, that's just not how you use the seats :p.

Yea I was told to do that a long time ago when I had a very heavy child I watched and she was 2. But I buckled the seat bealt then bulked the car seat straps so the seat belt wouldnt push on the car seat buckles. I now know of better options 12 years later.
