Dumb html questions

For some reason I have not been able to figure out how to do these 'tricks' that just about everyone else has figured out .

1- How do you imbed a video? I get the code from youtube, but then what do I do? How do I get it to show up in a post?

2- Say you want to add a link in a post, but not show the entire url, instead make it look nice and neat like this: link? How do you do it?

Sorry for the dumb questions, I swear I am otherwise computer literate!

Not sure on the video, but the url one is coded this way:

{url = http//...}What you want to call your url{/url}

Except you'll need you replace the curly braces with [ and ]

(it seriously took me ten tries to get those square brackets typed - I've been doing too much Actionscript coding with curly braces!)

1- How do you imbed a video? I get the code from youtube, but then what do I do? How do I get it to show up in a post?

Just copy and paste the website URL. No need to copy/paste anything from the video, just the link in the website bar.

If you want to make it a link that you have to click to see the video (so the video isn't directly in the post), uncheck the button that says "Automatically embed media (requires automatic parsing of links in text to be on)." It's towards the bottom in the options when you are creating a new post. Also, an FYI -- If you edit your post (without clicking "Go advanced"), it will re-check that option, so the video will directly show up. To fix this, just hit "Go Advanced" and then hit save (I don't think you have to re-uncheck the box).

2- Say you want to add a link in a post, but not show the entire url, instead make it look nice and neat like this: link? How do you do it?

There is a button up top when you make a post, it's the globe with a paper clip type thing. There are two ways to do this.

1. Type in whatever you want to "show up" as the words (I'll use cs.org as an example). So I'll type "This here is the best website ever", then I'll copy the URL (www.car-seat.org), then I'll highlight the words "This here is the ..." and then I'll hit that globe icon and paste the link into the box that shows up. Hit "ok" and presto. It'll work.

Or.

2. Copy the url (www.car-seat.org), hit the globe icon, paste the url in, hit enter (or ok, whatever it says). Then when you hit ok, it will highlight a section of typing after you've hit enter. Just start typing -- What you type is what will show up "This is the best ..."

Does that all make sense? Feel free to use this thread as a practice for yourself. :D

Pictures work better, ay? :)

Here is how to link to a website.

1. Copy the link to the website you want:

1.jpg

---

2. Type the text in which you want to be hyperlinked, then highlight it.

2.jpg

---

3. With the text highlighted, hit the "Insert Link" button at the top.

3-1.jpg

---

4. Paste the link (to the website) into the pop up box.

4-1.jpg

---

5. Viola, it will change your highlighted text to this (below), and you're done. :)

Type the text in which you want to be hyperlinked, then highlight it.

---

OR

1. Start by Clicking the "Insert Link" button at the top. Paste in the website URL in which you want to link to.

4-1.jpg

---

2. When you click the "Insert Link" button first, after you hit enter, there will be a code with a highlighted section. The highlighted section is where you would type the words that you would want hyperlinked.

6-1.jpg

---

So this right here is what was highlighted, and this is what will be hyperlinked.

7-1.jpg

---

So this right here is what was highlighted, and this is what will be hyperlinked.

And you're done! :)
