Would this be ok?

In November we are going to Texas to my cousins house for vacation. They recently had a baby born at 29 weeks, so we are guessing hes going to be in the hospital still when we get there. I was going to take my KF30 down with us for them to use for B. We are flying down there.

Would it be ok for Miley to use the KF on the plane, so we don't have to check it? We wouldn't be using it past the plane. I have a seat at their house that we use when we go there, so when they arrive at the airport to pick us up, she will go into a seat that actually fits her.

Or any other suggestions?

I probably would. She may be only 1 pound over and a few inches but it's only on the plane, not a car.
That is going against all manufacturer's recommendations though.

I know its going against manufactors instructions and I would never do this normally. And it is ONLY going to be used on the plane, just so we don't have to worry about it being throwin around with luggage. And then on the way home, I will either a)take seat home from cousins house or b) go buy a cheap Scenera.

Based on your sig. picture you have a radian, could you use that on the plane on the way there for your oldest and then on the way back for your youngest so you wouldn't have to worry about possibly buying a seat (not sure if it would be more work than it is worth bringing 2 seats on the way there).

I really don't mind buying another seat to come home with, because we are in need of a spare anyways. Anna is going to riding in a Nauti on the plane and when we get there, so she is covered. Its just thumper we need to figure out if she will be ok in the KF on the plane.

How does she fit in the KF? Is she hanging off both ends, or just right at the limits? It may be easier to call the KY a "carry on" and stow it overhead yourself if she doesn't still fit well. (hard to imagine the kiddo in your siggy fitting into a KF, but may just be perspective of the pic).

Can you put her in the KF and take a pic so we can see how she would look. Me personally I would either use it as a carryon or check it at the gate. That way it may not be treated like the rest of the luggage.

I don't have much experience flying (and have never flown with kids, much less a car seat), but based on everything I've read from other people here, I wouldn't be surprised if the flight attendants gave you a hard time about using the KeyFit for her. And, if it came down to making them show you the rules, etc. they could technically not allow you to use it for her since technically she really has outgrown it.

I let ds ride in his TF without the headrest even though he was 1lb over the headrest required limit, just b/c I could install it RF (I put the headrest in the overhead bin in my bag). On a plane, I would not worry about it one bit from a safety standpoint unless its uncomfortable for her!

I would think more about how the seat would hold up. Do you want it to have to do the work of holding a kid over the weight limits and then be used for another child?

I will try to get a good picture of her in it. My camera battery is dead right now. Her feet hang off, but he head is fine.

Maybe I should just send it to them in the mail and use her seat on the plane.
I have never flown with kids before and have only flown once myself.

I'd do it as long as she fits reasonabl well. If her head is contained in the shell, fine. If it's hanging over the shell, no.

As for being over the weight limit, she's 30 lbs now? She might still be 30 lbs next month. And of she's 31 lbs next month? I would hope the Keyfit is resilient enough to handle an extra pound. Unless the flight attendants have a scale, I don't see how they'd keep you from using it.

(Note: I'm ok with this for the airplane. I'm not ok exceeding weight limits in a car.)
